Public Benefits Eligibility Calculator

mRelief offers an easy to use online eligibility calculator to assess whether you qualify for 13 different public benefit programs available to both City of Chicago and Illinois residents.

Who is Eligible

All who are interested in receiving assistance from the state, whether in the form of income supports, education supports, food stability, or health support services are encouraged to use this online platform.

Why Apply

Using mRelief simplifies the qualifying process with an easy-to-use form that can be accessed online and through SMS. The relief programs include food (food stamps), transportation (RTA Ride Free), and healthcare (Medicaid and Medicare Cost Sharing). mRelief allows you to decide whether it is worth filling out the detailed application forms, gathering identifying documents, and waiting at the office for an interview. There is value in determining eligibility in the privacy of your home or behind a computer screen, instead of in public when you are vulnerable.

To Apply For

To access the assesment tool, visit mRelief and click on the benefit program to which you would like to apply.

mRelief has unveiled a new feature of their web application that allows citizens to text (773) 377-8946 to check if they are eligible for food stamps. Users can start the conversation by texting "Hello," or their preferred greeting. mRelief, fiscally sponsored by Good City, has also rolled out SMS capability for RTA Ride Free, Medicaid and Medicare Cost Sharing. mRelief’s quick screener accounts for the requirements of several government benefits, including Medicaid, Food Stamps and SNAP Benefits.  Users can explore their eligibility for state and local government benefits; if they qualify they are directed to their immediate next step. If they don’t qualify, they’ll be directed to local community resources provided by Purple Binder’s database, an organization that matches people with community services with citizens’ health in mind.
