Parent Fact Sheet: CPS Special Education Rights After SB 454

News (Tuesday, September 11, 2018)

On August 20th of this year, SB 454, a bill amending Illinois school code, was signed into law. In response to a 5-month probe ISBE probe into the CPS Special Education program that spotlighted a number of malpractices limiting access to special education services, this bill will provide clarity to parents regarding the services that their children are to receive. In turn, this bill will hold CPS more responsible for its administration of services.

In light of this policy change, Legal Council has curated a fact sheet for special education parents, in order to increase awareness about newly established rights. The fact sheet can be found here.
